Overlooking Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum holds the world's greatest collection of pharaonic antiquities. During the 2011 uprising, intruders broke in through the roof, damaging artifacts and stealing dozens of objects, including items associated with Tutankhamun. Many pieces were later recovered, but the episode exposed the vulnerability of cultural heritage in times of upheaval.
