The oldest art museum in Canada, the MMFA was the target of the largest art theft in Canadian history. In September 1972, thieves entered through a skylight under repair, tied up guards, and made off with 18 paintings — including a Rembrandt — and numerous objects. Known as the 'Skylight Caper,' the case remains unsolved.
