Iraq's second-largest museum, holding Assyrian and Hellenistic antiquities from the ancient cities around Nineveh. In 2015, ISIS militants filmed themselves destroying statues and lamassu reliefs with sledgehammers and drills — an act of cultural destruction broadcast as propaganda that shocked the world.
