Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the Neue Nationalgalerie is a landmark of modernist architecture and home to 20th-century art. In 1976, the artist Ulay staged 'There Is a Criminal Touch to Art,' walking out with Carl Spitzweg's painting 'The Poor Poet' and hanging it in the home of a Turkish immigrant family — a performance about ownership, value, and who art is really for.
