This Baroque oratory in Palermo, adorned with stuccoes by Giacomo Serpotta, once displayed Caravaggio's 'Nativity with St Francis and St Lawrence.' In October 1969, thieves — long suspected to be linked to the Sicilian Mafia — cut the altarpiece from its frame. It remains one of the most sought-after missing paintings in the world, and a replica now hangs in its place.
