The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam holds the largest collection of the artist's works. In December 2002, two thieves used a ladder to climb onto the roof, broke in, and stole two early paintings — 'View of the Sea at Scheveningen' and 'Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church at Nuenen.' Recovered in Italy in 2016, they had been in the hands of a Camorra drug trafficker.
